    Uncontested seat

A seat filled without a vote because there were no more candidates than seats.

    How it's calculated

Candidates ≤ seats available. Counted separately and never included in share calculations.

    Worked example

Heworth has been contested at every election shown: 11 candidates for 3 seats in 2023, 6 for 1 seat in 2026.

Source: Heworth ward, City of York — by-election of 15 January 2026 and May 2023.

    Caveats

    • Older sources sometimes record uncontested winners with zero or no votes; those are excluded from shares.
