    Turnout (three methods)

The proportion of the electorate who voted.

    How it's calculated

    (1) Reported: ballot papers ÷ electorate, where published. (2) Estimated, per seat: total votes ÷ seats ÷ electorate. (3) Top candidate per party: sum of each party's best candidate ÷ electorate. The method is always labelled. Aggregate turnout (all votes ÷ all electorate) and average ward turnout are shown separately.

    Worked example

A worked example will appear once the electorate figure for Heworth is loaded.

    Caveats

    • Older multi-member data can produce estimates over 100%; we show a quality flag instead of the number.
